Humanity is faced with an enormous crisis. Each day more than 800 million people suffer from serious malnutrition. An estimated 1.1 billion people have no access to clean drinking water. Not only food and water-shortages are major challenges but also peace and security. Far from freeing ourselves from the negative legacy of the war - and violence ' ridden twentieth century, we see these threatening trends continue to accelerate and expand. Global economic and social questions cannot be addressed successfully by just one institution. What is needed is a partnership between different governmental and intergovernmental organisations, the business sector and types of civil society. What kind of leadership and citizenship is required such a volatile situation? It will be a leadership and citizenship which is able to prick holes in the shrouds of hopelessness and frustration. This leadership is focusing on the long term, rising above the emotions of the trying moment and exerting all the strength of the spirit to press forward with dialogue.
The purpose of the Encounter of Worldviews Foundation is to stimulate and to bring to a more professional level a dialogue based on and inspired by the spiritual depths of different religions and worldviews.
